Introduction to the chargeable weight of light and heavy cargo by air freight

Return list source:Xinjian Logistics Release date: 2023.01.14

The so-called chargeable weight refers to the quantity of goods used to calculate freight. The chargeable weight of air freight includes light cargo and heavy cargo, and the chargeable weight of these two types of goods is different.

1、 High density cargo

Heavy goods refer to goods that weigh more than 1 kilogram per 6000 cubic centimeters or 366 cubic inches or more than 1 pound per 166 cubic inches. The chargeable weight of a heavy cargo is its gross weight.

If the gross weight of the goods is expressed in kilograms, the minimum unit for billing weight is 0.5 kilograms. When the weight is less than 0.5 kilograms, it shall be calculated as 0.5 kilograms; If the weight exceeds 0.5 kilograms but is less than one kilogram, it shall be calculated as one kilogram. If the gross weight of the goods is expressed in pounds, it is calculated as one pound when the goods are less than one pound.

2、 Low density cargo

Light cargo or light foam cargo refers to goods that weigh less than 1 kilogram per 6000 cubic centimeters or 366 cubic inches, or less than 1 pound per 166 cubic inches.

The billing weight of light foam goods is based on their Volume Weight, calculated as follows:

1. Measure the longest, widest, and highest parts of the goods without considering their geometric shape, in centimeters or inches, and round off the tail of the measured values.

2. Multiply the length, width, and height of the goods to obtain their volume.

3. Convert the volume into kilograms or pounds, which means dividing the volume value by 6000 cubic centimeters, 366 cubic inches, or 166 cubic inches based on the different units of measurement used. The treatment method for volume weight tail is the same as that for gross weight tail.
